We planted last year in a new bed and it worked great. You just need some form of compost, along with whatever else you can find like grass clippings and a handful of dirt will help too.I also only used a couple of sheets of newspaper under everything and I think the plants rooted right through it.

Thank you for sharing your video about your sheet mulch garden. We trying one small garden bed using this method and will be putting it together this weekend. We aren't sure if we should let it break down over the summer and then use it for fall planting or if we should plant right away.. we'll see! Thanks for sharing!

Another way to extend compost is to utilize actively aerated compost tea. The reason why compost is so beneficial is because of the microorganisms present therein, and when you make the compost tea, you essentially are able to quadruple the amount of active microbes and you can also brew beneficial fungus! It is insanely crazy wonderful stuff. I used it all last year and my garden literally was off the hook, growing like mad!! Now my soil is black and easy to dig up. I will make a vid on it.
