@mugumya When you have bacon and eggs for breakfast, who helped and who ENSURED you have a good breakfast? The pig or the chicken?

Soil Preparation For a Productive Garden – Best Practices

Tillage is a step, as they are in the garden ready for cultivation and, if possible, in the case. This time the soil over the winter to grow after the dress will be built. Excellent results can still be achieved if this timetable is not possible, so that this date is not necessarily decisive.
If your garden plot is quite large, it would be advisable to rent or borrow rotary tiller, if you do not own. Loosen the soil thoroughly and select the sticks, stones, rocks and other debris. Remove any existing sod and vegetation, shake the dirt and waste vegetation or sod into your compost pile. You do not have a compost pile? Ideas to build or buy. It is you and your garden a huge favor.
This is also an excellent time to make your soil for pH. Vegetables generally good in a slightly acidic soil condition. Please contact your local extension service for further advice on this topic. Soil-testing kits that are available and are very inexpensive get excellent results. Mulch with a dusting of lime or fertilizer, 2 or 3 inches of manure, and all organic materials such as leaves, peat moss, straw, hay, grass clippings, etc. and to a depth 8-10 inch The decomposition of these organic materials over the winter, will provide valuable nutrients to your garden. Once that is done, the plant with a crop of something, such as hairy vetch or winter rye, the creation of an environmentally friendly green manure and discourage weed growth and erosion.
Now you have all winter to the seed catalogs and look forward to spring.
In the spring, when it is dry enough to mow the crop and make it down to a depth of 6-8 inches. Retest the soil for the soil pH values, because some leeching may occur over the winter, and the pH can be adjusted.
Do not try to get your soil when it is too wet. If the soil is at the tiller, or other tools, it is still too wet to work. A shiny surface on which the earth is a further indication of a dangerously wet soil condition. Why is this so important? If the soil dries it will be hard rock-like clumps that are extremely difficult to return to a fragile state and work in good loam.
A word of caution, no more than up to the ground, because it is too fine and not oxygen, water or nutrients. If the soil is not overloaded, it is more organic material to work into it. You are now ready, just to the plant. Rake in the plot nor the surface and work in some manure or compost, just before you seed or plants.
