2 eggs 2 slices of bread and 2 chicken patties

Is It Normal To See Stuff Growing In Your Compost Heap?

I mean, not weird stuff, but vegetables. I saw something like beets growing in the small compost heap in the corner of the yard, and I was wondering if that happens often, and is it safe to eat?

It’s safe to eat. We grow things in soil with chemicals and manure, right?

  • Jerry G says:

Seeds have gotten into your compost heap..That happens often if you use kitchen waste in your compost. Yes they are safe to eat. Any seed that is vialble will grow. Be it vegetable or weed. Compost heaps grow great squash and pumpkin..

it’s normal, there were probably seeds of a vegetable or something that was thrown out, I used to get that often in my compost pile but i no longer have one, I don’t think I would eat it though, but you could try to replant it somewhere else.

  • RoLaNd says:

maybe someone planted it dont ya think

There are usually seeds from the plant material you put into the compost heap so eventually it starts growing– that’s normal but I don’t think I would eat those beets or whatever is growing in there
