Mulch Mold Treatments

For gardeners, mulch is an essential part of any garden treatment for the beneficial properties it adds to the soil and the plants. A common problem that occurs with mulch however is mold, and mulch mold treatments are prevalent because of this. With certain types of mold you won’t have to worry about any problems. Conversely, there are some types of mold that can severely damage your plants if left untreated. However with proper treatment and early detection, you can save your lawn and garden from becoming damaged by harmful strains of mold.

Mulch Mold TreatmentsCertain types of mold will not harm your flowerbeds, but look unsightly. For example, white mold that grows on top of your soil and/or mulch is actually not harmful to your plants and cannot be treated. Rather, this type of mold actually benefits your plants and flowers by adding essential nutrients to your soil by breaking down organic matter. Slime molds are another type of mold that doesn’t actually harm your plants, but look incredibly disgusting. To get rid of these, simply shovel off the offender and stir your mulch for proper air circulation. To lessen the chance of getting mold altogether, consider using a nice gravel mulch instead of bark. Gravel mulches discourage the growth of mold, while bark mulches are perfect spots to grow mold.Mulch Mold Treatments

Mold likes to grow in damp, dark places. To inhibit mold growth, you may want to consider planting where there is lots of sun. If you suspect a mold problem, treating it early is the first line of defense against a nasty mold infestation. Remember, many molds are not harmful to your plants but do decrease the aesthetic value of your landscape. There are several mulch mold treatments you can use to rid your garden of this nuisance to regain your beautiful, healthy lawn or garden.

How Do I Get Rid Of This Disgusting Cut Grass / Mulch Smell?
Tue, 23 Feb 2010 09:59:30 GMT
I mowed my lawn and put the clippings in a big plastic bag which I left on my concrete patio. That was a few days ago and today I moved the bag to put it in my bin. The bag must have had a hole in the bottom because it's left behind a bit of "juice" and a residue stain on my patio which STINKS!! It is one of the worst smells I have ever smelt!! I've tried washing it away with water, detergent and a scrubbing it with coarse broom but the smell is still there. I even sprayed perfume on it
