Slime molds are another type of mold that doesn’t actually harm your plants, but look incredibly disgusting. To get rid of these, simply shovel off the offender and stir your mulch for proper air circulation. To lessen the chance of getting mold altogether, consider using a nice gravel mulch instead of bark. Gravel mulches discourage the growth of mold, while bark mulches are perfect spots to grow mold.

Mold likes to grow in damp, dark places. To inhibit mold growth, you may want to consider planting where there is lots of sun. If you suspect a mold problem, treating it early is the first line of defense against a nasty mold infestation. Remember, many molds are not harmful to your plants but do decrease the aesthetic value of your landscape.
